A Flowers Smile
Author: Anonymous Z category: Love
I wished upon a shooting star
The day you looked at me
I jumped in shock, but gladly so
That fortune had smiled so greatly
When I first took notice of your charm
So many weeks before
You pulled me as a blossom would
A one-way magnet pull
Wary of thorns, I approached you slow
Anticipation with caution so constant
When the coast was clear, no thorns to fear
I reached for you with trembling hands
How beautiful you would be, once you had grown
I thought as I brought you home
Your every change and detail a miracle
I fell in love with you
I told of you to my dearest friend
She holds my loyal trust
She smiled and laughed in excellent time
Whenever of you we discussed
Curious now to understand my love
She asked to see my flower too
I saw no harm, the more the merrier!
What is love that must be hidden?
She did not hesitate to admire my flower
She saw for what I fell
But I watched in surprise as you turned to her
Perhaps a trick of light
It was not long at all before she asked
To see it once again
I smiled and led her to my beautiful flower
And the light played my mind again
The days grew long as far more frequently
She stopped by
I saw she loved my flower too
But I knew not of her flaw
Soon I came home to see her present,
Already in my home
I asked her please to knock next time
But my words reached only deaf ears
She heard only the flower’s whispers
The flower heard only her
I cried beside them day by day
But they neither heard nor saw
Bruised and broken I watched you, my flower
But you saw nothing worth seeing
You saw only my dearest friend
Had had become blind of me
One day I came home to find your vase
No note, no sign, no trace
Only a hole deep inside of me
A gaping, empty space
I kept your vase, I could not let go
Your scent was all I had left
Each day I thought of you and my friend
And knew neither meant harm
Would I have done the same to her,
Had she held the flower I loved?
My dearest friend could not resist… This much
Could not be intended
I caught glimpses of you, flower
You bloomed more vibrant than before
I suppose I will let you go for us all
Better two to benefit than one
What’s this? How now? My friend
Demands more petals
Fear not my flower, you have enough
She knows you are not able
But still she cries? Demands for more?
Did you do something wrong?
You are as ever beautiful, why does she
Ask for more?
My poor, poor flower, you’ve begun to wilt
Under her misunderstanding care…
Does she not see that for you to bloom
She must maintain her share?
Why did you choose her, flower? Can’t you
See I know what’s best?
It hurts to see you wilting but,
It’s far too late, long last
If you return I’ll do as I can
To restore your beautiful hue
But I understand if you still desire for her
More peals to produce
She loves you so, my flower, but
She does not know how to stop
She cannot help it, flower, so I know
Why you’ve chosen to stay with her
What’s this? What changed! You left her!
Are you free?
But oh, where did you go? You’ve not
Returned to me
My flower! At last! I’ve found you
In this field
What’s this you say? You wish to stay
Forever here with these?
Of course my flower, I will let you go
To stay with flowers of your color
You will stay and love the flowers but,
Know how beautiful you are to me
I’ll love you now until you treat me poor
And how I’ll miss you so
I’ll visit often, fear not for me,
I’ve always made it through
I know now you were never truly mine,
I’ve never had the smile you saved for her
And though tomorrow good friends we’ll be
I still dream of the smile I long.
