    His Final Night

    written by: Colin Clarke
    category: Ode

    A stormy night grew close,
    the clouds had gathered nearer,
    rain falls from the heavens,
    as fear grows more clearer,

    lightning flashes across the horizon,
    ripping through the sky,
    runbling through the dark clouds,
    is thunder shouting it's cry,

a war rages on upon a battle field,
memories of the past he uses as a shield,
a soldier stands alone lost among the trees,
he knows that one stray bullet will forever set him free,

his family back at home pray every night,
to see him for a day to see him i their sight,
but hope not from a letter in a coffin or a bag,
but with a medal on his chest and his photo in a mag,

the sun comes up and light fills the sky,
hes bleeding from the chest and asks god why?,
but he receives no answer, no response no reply,
a quiet whisper to himself kisses the wind,
to his family to say goodbye.
