Passages of Light and Dark
written by: Laurent Kelly
category: Love
The bells that ring into his room,
Are memories of when she used to sing,
And each struck glows as a fainting gloom,
Of the joy she used to bring.
The warm fire in his lonely home,
Burns bright once like his heart,
And when it goes out he feels so alone,
Because it reminds him of his joys depart.
The nurses voice and scent of outside air,
Are like the walks he used to love,
Hand in hand with a love so rare,
Till nightime romance brought the stars above.
But a thought too long or a smile too sweet,
And a scowl on his face and spite in his mind,
Because the nurse's stare becomes a repeat,
Of the way his lover once stared into his eyes.
Till evening shall his weary mind,
Filled with regret and pain,
Stay awake with thoughts of a once happy life,
And so his dreams will do the same.
And in his dreams much worse,
Because her touch feels impossibly real,
Waking up nights feeling cursed,
Of the way she made him feel.
To show him great love and its fateful cost,
Has made his life a living hell,
Never able to get over his loss,
The day the stars fell.
