    Something She's Seen Before

    written by: Creeda Severight
    category: Fear

    She stood there alone,
Like she had many times before
    With her shoulder slumped,
And her eyes to the floor,

This was nothing new to her,
It was like a simple routine,
She closed her eyes and repeated to her self,
“This is something I’ve already seen”,

She would listen to them scream,
And hear thuds against the wall,
She held herself and covered her ears,
As each tear had started to fall,

    She thought about the pain
And the anger she had inside,
But they were coming down the hall,
She thought quickly for a place to hide,

She knew what was coming next,
They were playing there sick little game,
Soon they would find her and beat her,
    Yesterday was just the same,

She sat and hoped they wouldn’t find her,
She prayed God would take her away,
But something hit her from behind,
    And stole her thoughts away,

    She looked up and realized,
    It was her alcoholic dad,
His fist was clenched in a ball
And boy did he ever look mad,

    Strike after strike,
    She felt herself getting weak,
But he picked her up just one more time,
And smack her against the cheek,

She mumbled with just one last breath,
As she lay there helplessly on the floor,
She covered her ears and closed her eyes,
“This is just something I’ve seen before”
